Best ways to use Hyatt points

World of Hyatt points can be redeemed for a lot more than just free nights, offering flexibility for members who would prefer to book experiences, rent a car or transfer to an airline partner. But the value of your rewards can change drastically depending on how you spend them, so carefully consider what you can get out of your points before deciding to use them.

World of Hyatt redemption options

Standard room nights

Booking a free night award in a standard room gets the most value out of your World of Hyatt points – a whopping 2 cents per point on average. This value shifts slightly depending on what tier of Hyatt property you choose to stay at, but it remains competitive with other programs. Here’s a quick breakdown of the number of points required to book a free night award and average point value for each tier of Hyatt properties.

For the most part, lower tier properties tend to result in a higher point value. But since Hyatt uses a fixed redemption chart, you can find incredible deals by searching for a room during busy times of year. World of Hyatt doesn’t impose any blackout dates, so if you hunt carefully, you might be able to score a more expensive room at a higher tier hotel for the same number of points.

If you find yourself short on points, World of Hyatt also offers a Points + Cash option for free night awards. You’ll only need to save half of the required points. Then, you can pay 50% of the standard rate for the room to cover the rest. Since points are worth more than cash, you’ll get a little less for your money this way. So, unless you need to book a stay soon, it is in your best interest to save points to cover the entire night.

All-inclusive resorts

Another high-value redemption option for your World of Hyatt points is a free night award at one of Hyatt’s all-inclusive resorts, averaging a 1.8 cent-per-point value. The price of this award ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 points, depending on which property you stay at, so you’ll need to rack up a decent number of points to redeem this option.

While this redemption option has a slightly lower point value than a standard free night award, it is a great option for travelers who want a laid-back vacation.

Dining and Exhale spa services

Another fairly rewarding redemption options for your World of Hyatt points is a credit for dining, spa or in-room services. Points get more valuable the more you redeem, so while 1,000 points will only offer you a $10 credit for these services (1 cent per point value), redeeming 65,000 points can get you a $1,000 credit (1.5 cents per point value).

While this is always less than the value you can find in free night redemptions, using your points for dining and spa services can be a great way to round out your vacation experience on points alone.

FIND experiences

Though not quite as valuable as a free night award, FIND experiences are still a great way to spend your World of Hyatt points. You can get around 1.4 cents per point to put toward unique opportunities such as wine tastings, dance lessons, private tours and more in cities around the world. If you’ve ever wanted to paraglide, try out goat yoga or take a pasta-making class, using your World of Hyatt points on FIND experiences can help you try new things at a great discount.

Avis car rentals

Thanks to a partnership with Avis International, World of Hyatt members can use their rewards points to book their next car rental. But this option gets very little value out of your points. In fact, you’ll get a better value just paying for the car outright.

Transferring Hyatt points

World of Hyatt also allows members to transfer their points to one of 27 airline partners. Unless you desperately need to top off a miles balance with your favorite airline, this is not usually your best bet.

With a few exceptions, World of Hyatt points transfer to travel partners at a rate of 2.5 Hyatt points to 1 partner point. Plus, World of Hyatt points are worth more than most airline points to begin with. As mentioned above, you can get up to 2 cents of value out of your World of Hyatt points when you redeem them for a free night award. When you factor in the poor transfer rate, transferring your points sacrifices half of that value, or more.

Hyatt transfer partners

As you can see, even partner airlines with valuable miles – such as Singapore Airlines or British Airways (both boasting miles values over 2 cents) – won’t get much value out of a World of Hyatt point.

Bottom line

Whenever possible, use your World of Hyatt points to book a free night award. Especially at lower-tiered hotels, you’ll get unprecedented value out of your rewards. If you find yourself with a few extra points left over, other redemption options such as FIND experiences and Exhale spa treatments also have great value and can make your next vacation unique.
