In general, online shopping portals are often underutilized and overlooked credit card rewards perks. However, when cardholders remember to use the Shop Through Chase portal for purchases they would have made anyway, this benefit can really pay off.

Shop Through Chase has a large selection of popular national retailers offering bonus points on your purchases, and the offers frequently change. Here’s everything you should know about the platform.

What is Shop Through Chase?

Shop Through Chase is the shopping rewards program of the Ultimate Rewards portal. Ultimate Rewards cardholders can access the portal to shop online and even earn bonus points at over 350 participating retailers.

To access Shop Through Chase, log into your Ultimate Rewards account and click the link through the portal. It should be noted that Chase members with more than one Ultimate Rewards credit card may only access the portal using one card – as not all cards offer the same number of bonus points. This means that for each purchase, cardholders should compare offers to choose the card that will get more points on the dollar.

Ultimate Rewards points may be redeemed for travel, gift cards from major retailers, Amazon and Apple purchases, cash back and more. Points can also be transferred to Chase’s travel partners.

How to use Shop Through Chase

Ultimate Rewards members may access Shop Through Chase by logging into their Ultimate Rewards account, either via desktop or the Chase mobile app. Note that cardholders with multiple credit cards must choose from the drop-down menu and choose which card they plan to use with that session.

Once you are logged on, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re logged on with the right card, which you can see at the top of the page.

Then, you can browse the virtual mall by clicking “Earn Points” and then “Shop Through Chase” to see which retailers have offers available.

When viewing a retailer, you’ll see how many points per dollar it offers with purchases. In the example below, Apple is offering 4 points for every dollar when you shop through the link.

Some retailers have multiple promotions on the site at once, combining points-per-dollar offers with more traditional discounts. In this example, Banana Republic has four active deals that offer cardholders 2 points for every dollar spent, in addition to some shipping promotions.

Finally, to access an offer, click “Shop Now.” This will open a new tab directing you to the store’s website, where you can complete the purchase and collect your bonus points.

  • Apparel stores like Banana Republic, Nike, Kohl’s, Ray-Ban and Under Armour
  • Electronics stores including Apple, Microsoft, Lenovo and Samsung
  • Beauty and health such as Walgreens, Smashbox and Sephora
  • Home office stores like Home Depot, Staples and Walmart

With so many major brands to choose from, shoppers don’t have to settle for less when maximizing Ultimate Rewards benefits. And with a number of different products to choose from, chances are there will be something you need or want.

How many points can you earn with Shop Through Chase?

The Ultimate Rewards program does not have limits on the points someone can accrue, and this perk also applies to Shop Through Chase. As you can see in the instances above, cash back and point values vary according to the retailer, and values often change and/or multiply.

While most offers are somewhere around 2 to 4 points per dollar, we found some as high as 10 points per dollar or up to a 30% discount. Retailers also run special promotions and sales on their own websites, so cardholders should check the website for opportunities to stack savings.

It is noteworthy that points used at checkout are worth $0.008 in value, meaning 100 points equal to $0.80.

How to maximize Shop Through Chase

To get the full value of the shopping program, cardholders should carefully read terms and conditions – including each offer on Shop Through Chase. Some restrictions on purchases may apply when it comes to earning bonus points.

Check the shopping portal frequently, as retailers and offers change on a regular basis.

Check the portal before buying anything online to see if there is an opportunity to earn points. Consider competitors or comparable products if you don’t see your usual brand.

Compare offers on different cards if you have more than one. The promotions you can find on the portal can change from card to card.

Shop Through Chase vs. Chase Offers

Shop Through Chase is the Ultimate Rewards shopping program and may be accessed through the Ultimate Rewards portal. This means it’s only available for cards that earn Ultimate Rewards. Offers give bonus points on everyday purchases, letting shoppers accrue them quickly.

Chase Offers, on the other hand, is available on any Chase credit card, including co-branded cards such as those from Chase travel partners. Chase Offers are usually cash back deals that are targeted to individual users. When offers are available, they may be viewed by logging into the Chase mobile banking app.

Bottom line

While the drawback to Chase’s shopping portal is you must own a qualifying card, the benefits are well worth it for those who do. Frequent online shoppers will enjoy using the portal to get rewarded for regular purchases – and then using their extra points for travel, cash back or even more shopping.
