The American Express® Gold Card is a favorite among foodies, thanks to a generous earning rate on both U.S. restaurant and U.S. supermarket purchases. Now, the card is even more appealing for frequent travelers. Starting June 6, 2019, cardholders will earn 4 points per dollar on restaurant purchases worldwide – not just in the U.S.
Cardholders can now use their Gold card freely for international dining and enjoy one of the highest rewards rates available on those purchases.
Unfortunately, the 4 points per dollar bonus on U.S. supermarket purchases (on up to $25,000 in purchases per year) will still be limited to domestic locations.
Other updates to the American Express Gold Card
The newly expanded restaurant category is not the only new change Amex Gold cardholders can enjoy. The issuer also recently added the online retailer Boxed to its annual dining credit. The perk offers cardholders who enroll $10 in statement credits per month (up to $120 per year) at participating restaurants, including Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Grubhub/Seamless.
The new addition of Boxed extends the dining credit’s potential, as cardholders can now apply their monthly statement credit toward bulk-grocery purchases with the retailer.
Additionally, the popular rose gold card design is available for new cardholders who apply through the American Express Refer a Friend program by July 17, 2019.
