If your friend or family member is shopping for a credit card, it might be a good deal for you both to take advantage of your credit card referral bonus program. This way, you and the person you’ve referred can get a nice bonus once they’re approved.
American Express is one of the major credit card issuers offering a referral bonus, and on Oct. 1, it announced a new attractive limited-time offer called “3 for All.” Using the offer, a cardmember can not only receive a bonus, but an elevated rewards rate as well.
How the limited-time referral bonus offer works
Through Oct. 28, when a cardholder with a consumer Amex credit card refers a friend for any Amex product, and their friend gets approved, the cardmember will earn 3 bonus points per dollar (or 3% more cash back) for the next three months. In turn, their friend will receive “one of the most rewarding welcome offers available,” according to American Express.
The rewards don’t end there. Cardholders who refer a friend who is approved can also earn another 7,500 points for each approved referral, up to 55,000 points. Each Amex card has its own referral bonus, so this number may be different depending on what card you have.
The newly approved cardmember can enjoy this elevated rewards rate too. As soon as they’re approved for their new Amex credit card, they can also refer a friend to take advantage of the 3-bonus-points-per-dollar offer.
Should you go for the new referral bonus offer?
If you know someone in your family or your friend circle who is shopping for a new credit card, there’s no harm in referring them to an Amex card.
American Express is a popular credit card issuer with a wide range of credit card products for many types of consumers. Whether your friend is interested in a no-annual fee cash back card, a premium travel credit card or a business credit card, they’re likely to find an Amex product that meets their needs.
Additionally, with the holiday season approaching and sales events like Amazon Prime Day around the corner, it can be easy for you to rack up rewards with the elevated rewards rate. Your referred friend might also find it easy to meet welcome bonus requirements during this period, making it a good time to apply for a credit card.
