The Bank of America® Business Advantage Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card has updated its rewards structure to give business owners more control over how they earn cash back. Now, instead of earning a 3-percent bonus on fixed categories, cardholders can choose from one of six popular earning categories, including gas stations, office supply stores, travel, TV/telecom and wireless, computer services and business consulting services.
Additionally, the card’s sign-up bonus has increased: New cardholders will earn a $300 online statement credit when they spend $3,000 in the first 90 days of card membership.

What purchases qualify for the choice category bonus?
Every purchase you make using your card is categorized using a merchant category code (MCC). Merchants are assigned an MCC based on the products and services they offer. While Bank of America does not have control over how a merchant classifies itself, they do group similar MCC’s into dining and choice categories to help maximize your bonus.
See what purchases qualify for the 3-percent bonus below.
Gas stations category
The gas category includes gas purchased at automated fuel dispensers and service stations with or without ancillary services, such as BP, Chevron and Circle K. The category excludes gas purchased at boat marinas and fuel from dealers whose primary line of business is heating oil, propane and other fuels.
Office supply stores category
The office supply stores category includes purchases made in the following merchant categories: stationary, office supplies, printing and writing paper, stationary stores, office and school supply stores. Merchants include Office Max, Office Depot, Staples and Quill.com.
Purchases made at variety, department warehouses or drug stores may not earn the bonus rate.
Travel category
A variety of merchants qualify for the travel category, including, but not limited to, airlines, bus lines, hotels, car rental agencies, taxis, parking lot and garages, suburban and local commuter passenger travel and travel agencies. For example, Delta Air Lines, Uber, Lyft, Hilton, Enterprise and Expedia are considered qualifying merchants.
TV, Telecom and Wireless category
This category includes the following merchants: cable, satellite and other pay television and radio, as well as telecommunication equipment, telephone sales, telecommunication services and telegraph services. For example, purchases made at AT&T, Netflix, Spotify, Cox Communication and Cricket Wireless qualify for the bonus.
Computer services category
Qualifying computer services merchants include computer network services, computer equipment, software and data processing services, such as Adobe, Intuit, Dell, Slack, Sage Software, Tech Data and more.
Business Consulting Services
Accounting, auditing and bookkeeping services, architectural and engineering services, management and consulting services and tax preparation services merchants are all included in the business consulting services category. For example, purchases made at H&R Block, LegalZoom, Stamps.com and One Legal qualify for the bonus.

Selecting a choice category
The 3-percent bonus category is automatically set to gas; however, starting April 8, 2019, you can change the choice category one time each calendar month.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to change the choice category every month, or at all in fact. It will remain the same until you decide to update it. To select your choice category, log in to your account via Bank of America online banking or the mobile banking app.
