Bank of America cardholders enjoy benefits like retail protections, travel protections and unique cultural perks like the stand-out Museums on Us® program, all just for having the right credit card.

Museum visits and similar opportunities are open for the most part, with some outstanding COVID-19 policies, so Bank of America cardholders can enjoy even more value from their cards with these enriching experiences.

What is Museums on Us?

Museums on Us is a program that has been around for 25 years. It offers free general admission during the first full weekend of each month to Bank of America credit and debit cardholders to attend some of the nation’s greatest cultural experiences.

This free access to artistic and cultural experiences across the U.S. includes not only world-famous museums and institutions ranging from history, art and children’s museums, but also select aquariums, botanical gardens, zoos and science centers.

“Bank of America’s steadfast support of the arts reflects our continued belief in the power of the arts, perhaps now more than ever. While the ways in which we support our partners is evolving based on the needs and circumstances of the moment, the health and safety of our clients remains a top priority,” says Rena De Sisto, global arts and culture executive at Bank of America.

“Our longstanding Museums on Us program is a powerful way to provide access to the arts to our communities in a way that fosters cultural appreciation and contributes to economic growth.”

Who is eligible?

Active Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank (U.S. Trust) credit or debit cardholders with photo ID receive one free general admission to a participating cultural institution during program weekends. Guests do not receive free entry.

You do not need to enroll to enjoy this benefit; the program is open to all cardholders. And typically, you do not need to reserve a spot. However, we suggest that those interested check with the museum, as program partners have different health and safety protocols in place and reservations may be necessary at certain institutions.

Though all Bank of America cards qualify, there are a few standout cards that offer Museums on Us perks – including the Bank of America® Premium Rewards® credit card, Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card and Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card.

A tip to stretch your Bank of America rewards a bit further is to add family members on as an authorized user. Every person must have their name on a credit card or debit card with a matching photo ID to take advantage of free admission to participating Museums on Us venues, so authorized users qualify for their own admission.

Just keep in mind that although adding authorized users to your account can yield rewards like this opportunity, there are risks associated. The main cardholder is solely responsible for any purchases that an authorized user charges on the card, including cash advances and associated fees.

Be sure to discuss charge and payment expectations with anyone you add as an authorized user to your credit card.

How Museums on Us works

Active Bank of America cardholders receive one free general admission to a participating cultural institution during the first full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each month. Typically, you just need to show your card and a photo ID to gain entry.

During the coronavirus pandemic, several of Bank of America Museums on Us partners have adjusted their admission procedures. Adjusted Museums on Us admission procedures, if applicable, can be found by locating and selecting a partner name here. Information will be updated on an ongoing basis.

Also, a nifty tip: On the Museums on Us website, cardholders can opt in to receive email reminders prior to program weekends.

Museums on Us dates

Bank of America will continue to provide credit and debit cardholders free general admission to top cultural attractions through its Museums on Us program every first full weekend of each month.

As partners may be adjusting opening plans in response to the health and safety circumstances in their communities, you should probably check first with participating venues for current plans, safety procedures and operating hours. If you choose to visit a museum or attraction, in addition to following physical distancing, a face covering may be required.

It’s also important to note that Museums on Us excludes fundraising events, special exhibitions and ticketed shows – and it’s not to be combined with other offers.

What locations participate in Museums on Us

The Museums on Us program includes more than 225 of the country’s prominent cultural institutions, across 123 cities in 35 states. Bank of America’s participant list includes local, community-based museums and world-renowned cultural institutions.

Participants include the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture in Baltimore, the Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, plus many more.

Not all institutions are open during the pandemic, so consider using the Bank of America site to search for a venue by city and state before planning your trip.

Bottom line

Through the Bank of America Museums on Us program, cardholders are invited to gain free admission to more than 225 museums, zoos and botanical gardens throughout the U.S. during the first full weekend each month.

Admission is for cardholders only – guests are not given free admission – but consider adding a family member on your account as an authorized user. This way, they will have their own credit card with their name on it and will be able to gain free entry under the program.
