Whether you want a Visa credit card for convenience or you could benefit from a low introductory APR for a limited time, the Alliant Visa Platinum is worth considering.

You won’t earn any rewards, but you could qualify for a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months, followed by a variable APR of 10.24% to 22.24%.

Just remember that you have to belong to Alliant Credit Union to be eligible to apply. However, you can apply for the card and a new membership at the same time.

Card rates and fees

New cardmembers of the Alliant Visa Platinum can benefit from paying as little as 0% interest on purchases for 12 months, with a 10.24% to 22.24% variable APR charged thereafter. Depending on your credit history, this card’s ongoing APR could be well below the average credit card interest rate. On the other hand, per the card’s terms you may only qualify for an introductory APR of up to 5.99%.

The card carries no annual fee, but a 2% balance transfer fee (minimum $5) will apply if you use this credit card to consolidate debt. This is notably lower than the rate you’ll find on many balance transfer cards, which often charge 3% or 5% in balance transfer fees.

A 2% foreign transaction fee can also apply to purchases made abroad, as can a late payment fee or returned payment fee of $27.

Card benefits

Like many low-interest cards, the Alliant Visa Platinum card’s perks are not particularly impressive. Here’s a quick look at the basic benefits the card has to offer:

  • Zero fraud liability: You’ll never be on the hook for fraudulent charges if a thief uses your credit card or credit card number to make a purchase.
  • Secondary auto rental coverage: You can qualify for secondary auto rental coverage when you pay for eligible rental periods with your credit card.
  • Roadside dispatch: Call this emergency hotline 24/7 in order to get emergency assistance, help with flat tires, towing services and more (pay-per-use service).

How does the Alliant Visa® Platinum Credit Card compare to other low-interest cards?

The Alliant Visa® Platinum Credit Card has a decent introductory rate that applies to both purchases and balance transfers. However, along with a relatively short intro APR period, this card fails to offer any rewards, which puts it behind some cards in its niche. Here’s a look at how the Alliant Visa Platinum compares with a few other cards that carry 0% intro APR offers.

Is the Alliant Visa® Platinum Credit Card worth it?

At the end of the day, the Alliant Visa® Platinum Credit Card is a decent card option. While it comes with a decent introductory offer on balance transfers and new purchases, it is seriously lacking in terms of rewards and cardholder benefits. Also note that you’ll need to be an Alliant Credit Union member to apply, which means there may be added hoops to jump through.
